National Security Lecture Series at DMGS
The Daniel Morgan Graduate School Lecture Series is specifically designed to bring together speakers with divergent opinions on national security with the goal of enabling the public to engage in robust and informed discussions. It has hosted some of the most distinguished and influential leaders, thinkers, and practitioners of the national security community. These members of the national security community have provided our students, faculty, and guests with first-rate analysis of some of the most pressing challenges of our time. Daniel Morgan Graduate School will continue to host speakers who can help prepare the next generation of leaders, scholars and, practitioners to develop actionable solutions to global and domestic security challenges.
Two weeks ago, Dr. Mark M. Lowenthal presented to DMGS students his most recent book publication, The Future of Intelligence. Dr. Lowenthal is an internationally recognized expert on intelligence, as well as the President and CEO of the Intelligence & Security Academy, LLC. Formerly, he served in several capacities of the U.S. government, including:
- Assistant Director of Central Intelligence (ADCI) for Analysis & Production;
- Vice Chairman for Evaluation, National Intelligence Council;
- Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Intelligence; and
- Staff Director, House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI).
Dr. Lowenthal discussed with students intelligence challenges he expects the U.S. will encounter, such as the democratization of intelligence and big data analysis. He also posited the inherent neutrality of technology in the digital landscape, indicating our perception of it as either an intelligence opportunity or threat.
Students were given the opportunity to engage with Dr. Lowenthal during the question and answer period. He graciously continued in private conversation with several students following the conclusion of the event.
