RONALD A. MARKS
Chairman, Intelligence Programs; Professor of Intelligence StudiesRonald A. Marks serves as the Chair of the Intelligence program at the Daniel Morgan Graduate School.
Ronald “Ron” Marks has had a very impressive 35-year career in US national security and intelligence. A former CIA official, Ron was a clandestine service officer and a Senate Liaison for five DCIs. He went on to serve on Capitol Hill as Intelligence Counsel to Senate Majority Leaders Robert Dole and Trent Lott.
Professor Marks is extremely well-connected within US national security and maintains his involvement with intelligence matters as a member of various Intelligence Community advisory groups.
In addition to his clandestine government work, Marks was also President of Intelligence Enterprises, LLC, a privately held management-consulting partnership which he led for five years focusing on investment, mergers and acquisition, and management strategies for the complex national security marketplace.
In 2011, Professor Marks was picked to be Director of Battelle Memorial Institute’s Cyber Doctrine Program where he worked to delineate a United States Government Cyber Doctrine that frames the uses and limits of America’s cyber activities both domestically and internationally. This effort resulted in the well received 2012 Battelle report, “#Cyber-Doc–No Borders-No Boundaries.”
Since leaving government, Marks has been a successful senior defense contractor and a software executive. After leading national security business ventures at SAIC and SRA, he was picked to re-open British Telecom’s Federal Practice and was subsequently hired to re-establish the Washington, D.C. office of Oxford Analytica, a UK based international consultancy firm which he led for six years.
Besides sitting on several corporate boards, Marks is also on the Board of Directors of The George Washington University Center for Cyber and Homeland Security and The Board of Management of the Cosmos Club. He has been a Standing Committee Member of the CSIS’s Transnational Threats Initiative for the past 20 years.
Formerly, Professor Marks has also taught at the John Hopkins’ Krieger School, the National Defense University, and The George Washington University. He is also a Senior Instructor with The Intelligence and Security Academy lecturing on the process of national security budgeting and intelligence community structure. He is also the author of Spying in America in the Post 9/11 World: Domestic Threat and the Need for Change.
